Born in Lubbock, Texas in 1956, Susan is the oldest daughter of Ralph and LaVerne (Dolly) Dresser. She is preceded in death by her brother, Michael Wayne Dresser, and her mother, Dolly Dresser. She is survived by John Kaneer, her husband of 38 years, her father Ralph Dresser, and her Westie dog, Joey. Susan is also survived by her 3 sisters: Sharon Dresser, Sandra Dresser Cooper, and Terri Dresser Skinner and three nieces Wendy Skinner, Mallory Skinner and Morgan Cooper and cousins Denise Waid and Donna Yajima.
Growing up in an Air Force family, Susie developed a love for different cultures and travel. She was especially fond of living and traveling in the Far East where she became fluent in reading and writing Japanese. Her language tutors believed she sounded like a native Japanese speaker and her friends and family loved hearing her speak and write the language.
Susan graduated from John Marshall High School, San Antonio, Texas in 1973 and Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies in 1979. She also attended Sophia International University in Tokyo, Japan and loved teaching English to Japanese professionals. While in Japan, she courageously chose to ‘go rogue’ and live in the Japanese village culture rather than live on Yokota Air Force Base with her family.
Susan met John Kaneer while living in Chicago, Illinois. They married in 1985 and have enjoyed living in Round Rock, Texas for over 35 years. Susan and John often collaborated on woodworking projects together, with Susan as the sketch artist and John as the sculptor. They fiercely loved their canine friends and being doting pet parents.
A devoted Dell employee who retired with over 30 years of service, she especially loved working with the International Division and her worldwide global team members.
With her natural artistic abilities, Susan created wonderful drawings and paintings, mosaic tile pieces, batiks, pottery, leatherworks, and jewelry. She loved everything organic, and relished her farm fresh deliveries long before food delivery became popular. It was common to find her puttering around the kitchen, experimenting with homeopathic medicines, crafting natural soaps and working with essential oils. She also enjoyed canning and dehydrating fruits and veggies, solar cooking and growing food in community gardens. Her quick sense of humor and witty personality livened up many celebrations.
Susan cared deeply for her Saint Richard’s Episcopal Church family in Round Rock. One of her post retirement dreams, to become a Minister and provide outreach to others, was put on hold when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2021. She lived with grace, courage and dignity and maintained a quiet resolve and faith that sustained her, especially in her last years. She had a strong spirit and a gentle soul that shined and touched many. Her wonderful presence will be deeply missed but her amazing spirit will live in our hearts and souls forever.
In lieu of flowers, Susan would appreciate donations to any pancreatic cancer research or support organization.
