Terry was born on October 17, 1955, in Sweetwater, Texas, to Cecil and Anita Bruner. He graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1974, where he distinguished himself as a state golf champion in both 1972 and 1973. He later earned an associate degree from Western Texas College.
A proud third-generation railroader, Terry devoted his career to the railroad industry. He worked his way through the ranks as a brakeman/conductor with Santa Fe Railroad, worked in many different roles up to Transportation Manager at Trinity Railway Express before transferring to CapMetro Rail in Austin to complete his career as General Manager. He spent decades with Herzog Transit, earning deep respect from colleagues for his steady leadership and commitment to excellence.
On June 26, 1984, Terry married the love of his life, Debbie. They met while both were working for the Santa Fe Railroad, beginning a partnership that would span more than four decades. Together, they built a life rooted in love, family, and shared purpose, raising two children, Cary and Cassie, both of Houston.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Terry found his greatest joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. He loved spending time outdoors, watching deer, squirrels, birds, and even passing golfers from his backyard - quiet scenes that brought him peace and contentment. He also had a playful side, enjoying the thrill of playing blackjack and poker with friends. Perhaps most cherished were the hours he spent on the tennis court and golf course with his children, where competition mixed with encouragement, and lasting memories were made. Terry also had a deep affection for his pets and his children’s dogs, who brought him companionship, joy, and plenty of smiles over the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Anita Bruner; his brother, Charles Bruner; his sister, Carolyn Goza; and his in-laws, Freddy and Betty Conner.
Terry is survived by his devoted wife, Debbie; his son, Cary and wife Erin; his daughter, Cassie; his brother, Mark and wife Gina; his sister-in-law, Carolyn Cox; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Terry will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering dedication, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, TX 78628, on April 12, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
