Tomi Longtin Spence, 63, died on May 10, 2018. She was a loving wife, mother, and friend. The youngest daughter of Felix Thomas Longtin and Mamye Ruth Longtin Bryant, Tomi was born May 30, 1954 in Slaton, Texas.
She graduated from Slaton High School and attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas where she received a B.A. in Speech and Theater and completed her coursework for a Master’s degree. She met her husband, Chris Spence, while working at the historic TEXAS Outdoor Musical that has been running annually for 53 years in the Amphitheater at Palo Duro Canyon State Park. She married Chris on August 17, 1975 in Slaton, and they celebrated the birth of their son David four years later. She devoted her time to raising her young son and taking care of her family. They moved to Georgetown, Texas in 1989. Her love for the theater led her to participate in and direct many shows in Georgetown at St. John’s United Methodist Church, the Palace Theater, and the Page House.
She served on many committees and ministries at St. John’s, especially with Children’s Ministries. She was a Board Member, Officer, and/or President of The Friends of the Georgetown Public Library, The San Gabriel Woman’s Club, G.I.V.E, and other non-profits in Georgetown. Tomi was a committed Christian, the rock that anchored her family, and beloved by virtually everyone who got to know her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Tom. She is survived by her husband Chris; son, David and his wife Hallie; sister, Linda and her husband Dennis; mother, Mamye Ruth; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Memorials may be made to: St. John’s United Methodist Church Children’s Ministries, or the Wesleyan Homes Benevolent Fund, or to the charity of your choice.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Georgetown, Texas with Reverend Darren Walker officiating.
