Troy often described himself as “just a country boy from East Texas,” but his 66 years of life
revealed him as that and abundantly more.
As a young boy, his family relocated to Austin, Texas, where he continued to be raised by his
dear Mama alongside his sisters (Kathy Austin Williams and Kay Francis Petitt). He spent his
childhood hunting minnows in creeks, bicycling the hilly streets of East Austin, and getting into
mischief typical of curious little kiddos.
As he grew, he developed a ferocious appetite for reading, a joy of athletics (namely basketball),
and a lifelong hunger to dissect, question, and understand the world around him. Over his life he
was many things: an L.C. Anderson Yellow Jacket, a McCallum Knight, a soldier in the U.S.
Army, a self-taught illustrator, an employee with an indisputable work ethic, a freelance
photographer, a die-hard Tina Turner (and Sade) fan, a cycling enthusiast, a pensive
philosopher, a meticulous homeowner, a legit Austinite, a (funky) music lover, a film
connoisseur, a nephew, an uncle, a cousin, a son, a brother, a husband, a father, and a friend.
Above all his accomplishments, titles, and relationships, he was a proud and splendid Black
man. As he’s laid to rest, his family wants to cling most tightly to that—his inherent dignity, his
deep love for the family that bore him, and his reverence for the ancestors whose resilient
shoulders carry that family, our family.
After standing toe-to-toe with cancer for nine grueling months, Troy Petitt is survived by his
children (Brandon Petitt and Olivia Petitt) from the union with his first wife, Cheryl Ann (Barrow)
Petitt. He’s also mourned by his ex-spouse (second wife) Jordiene Jewell Petitt, his sisters
(Kathy Austin Williams and Kay Francis Petitt), his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and
many dear friends that continue to hold Troy, his memory, and his oh-so unique spirit close to
their hearts. He was, is, and will remain a truly outstanding man.
Visitation will be Monday, May 3, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown. The service portion will be streamed on Facebook Live for those who cannot attend in person. Mr. Petitt will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
