

Mr. Winston Thomas Spencer, 99, husband, father and dear friend to all, died peacefully on January 30, 2017 at his home in Georgetown, Texas. He died of complications resulting from a fall and broken hip.
Winston was born on August 8, 1917 and grew up on a ranch in the Lemhi Valley near Salmon, Idaho with his brother Whitney and parents James and Christina. While working for the Idaho Power Company, he earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Idaho. After completing his degree, WWII broke out and he enlisted in the US Army in 1942. He was assigned to the Pacific Theater in the Army Air Corps. He earned a Bronze Star during the Battle of Guam and commanded a radar station there. He rose to the rank of Captain before mustering out in 1946.
After the war he took an engineering job with Westinghouse Electric in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he spent 36 years in the Switchgear Division. He met Wilma, the love of his life and future wife, on a streetcar in the early hours of New Year’s Day, 1947. During retirement he and Wilma moved to Georgetown, Texas.
Winston was an avid reader and he read every Western in the Georgetown library. He said there was never a bad Western movie or book.
Winston is survived by his wife of 69 years, Wilma Spencer; their daughter, Barbara Truskoski (Ben) of Austin, Texas; their son, Ronald Spencer (Kathy) of Southlake, Texas; and his grandsons, Michael Truskoski (Hannah) and Kyle Spencer.
A funeral service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Georgetown, Texas on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 10:00am followed by burial at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
