Gonzalo was born January 10, 1931, in Waco, Texas to Jose and Micaela Torres. His family moved around through several states as migrant workers. He then met Inosencia Munoz and they were marred on February 23, 1957 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. They made their home in Gering, Nebraska.
Gonzalo was a loving husband for 62 years and a loving father and grandfather. He was a life-long member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering. He was devoted to his faith, family and friends. He blessed many people with his love and advice.
In his younger days he loved working on cars. He was the neighborhood handyman and fixed lawn mowers, tools-anything one needed. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed being outdoors with his brother Alejandro, his wife and sister-in-law Margarita. His work ethic was impeccable, and he taught all of his children to be dedicated and hard working. He freely shared his love and knowledge with all of his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children Carmel (Joe) Mills, Vicky (Ladislao) Delgado, Jose (Nilva) Torres, Micky (Chris) Torres, Ann (Ed) Connelly, Mary (Bob) Escamilla and Esther (Joe) Sanchez; 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Inosencia, parents, brothers, sister and one grandson Anthony (Tony) Torres.
His Funeral Mass will be Saturday, November 20 at 10:30 am at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be Friday from 1-4 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel and a rosary at 6 pm at the church. A private family inurnment will be Monday at the West Lawn Cemetery. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Village and Heritage Staff who took such compassionate care of Gonzalo and helped us through such a difficult time. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
