Andrea is predeceased by her mother Donna (Russell) Brewer, paternal grandparents Percy and Vivian (Wood) Brewer. Maternal grandparents Hayward and Gertrude (Chipman) Russell. Mother-in-law Laura (McMillan) Madore and sister-in-law Sandy Madore.
Andrea was employed by the federal government for almost 30 years where she held various positions. Most recently she worked for 7 years with Citizenship and Immigration, 15 years with Service Canada, 3 years with the RCMP in Faro Yukon and 5 years with Health Canada in Whitehorse Yukon.
Andrea was an avid dart player where she played a number of years in the Canadian Dart Nationals for both Team Nova Scotia and Team Yukon. She was a huge influence in her daughter, Beth, also going to the Canadian Dart Nationals. She also organized and coached the youth dart shooters in the Yukon where she hosted the national championship.
Throughout school, Andrea played varsity basketball and played in the 1984 Cape Breton Games. She also enjoyed playing softball in her younger years, playing for Mary’s Angels. Most recently, Andrea enjoyed watching her family play softball and was her daughter Sandra’s number one fan.
Andrea continued with her love of basketball by coaching many different teams, both boys and girls of all ages within different organizations. She coached basketball for 10 years for both OVEC and Basketball Cape Breton, was a huge part of the Sgt Jimmy MacNeil tournament and coached soccer for OVEC, Glace Bay High and the Glace Bay Soccer Association. Andrea taught her players much more than the game of basketball and soccer, she taught them life skills that they would use off the court and pitch. She truly cared for every player she coached and always had their best interests in mind. She believed in her players and encouraged them to always do their best but above all to have fun.
When she wasn’t coaching during the summer she could be found at her little piece of heaven on earth on “The Mira”. She’d spend her days swimming in the Mira River and nights by the campfire outside her trailer, enjoying the beautiful sunsets and sunrises.
