

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Frances Elizabeth Hunter of Donkin; a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Surrounded by family, she passed at the C. B. R. H. on April 28, at the age of 96.
Frances was born March 3, 1930 to the late Dan and Annie MacKenzie and spent most of her life in Donkin. Ma worked as a grounds supervisor and lunch lady at the Donkin Elementary School. She was a member of Donkin Branch 5 Lady's Auxiliary and St Luke's United Church.
For many years she enjoyed playing cards, especially poker with her special friends, playing darts, and going to bingo with her bingo buddies. She enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids play sports. She spent many summers at the Donkin ballfield watching them play ball, she never missed a game. She loved having visitors, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. They always put a smile on her face.
Frances is survived by her children; Judy (Ed) Sweeney, Blair (Phyllis), Pam, Cindy (Paul) MacInnis; grandchildren, whom she adored, Nicole (Doug), Angie (Kirk), Jason (Kristy), Colin (Leah), Matthew, Bonnie (Rod), Neil, Adrienne (Ian), Darren and Brittany (Jeff); great grandchildren, who brought her so much joy, Arya, Olivia, Elsie, Jordan, Parker, Peyton, Layla, Myles, Carter and Colton; sisters Laura MacDougall, Mary Walsh; brother Albert; brother-in-law Hugh Brian "Hubby" and his family, and Ma's chosen family Dwight and Phyllis Smith and family and Lorna MacMillan and family.
Besides her parents, Ma was predeceased by her husband Billy, brothers Alex, Sonny, Wilburn, Buster, Donald John; sisters Margaret, Mayme, Kay and Thelma.
A visitation will take place at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay from 5-8pm on Tuesday, May 5. Funeral Service will also be held at Patten Funeral Home on Wednesday at 2pm. Memories and condolences can be shared with the family by visiting pattenfuneral.com.
We, the family, would like to thank the staff of the ICU at the CBRH for their compassion and great care given to our mother and family. Thank you to Dr. James MacLean for the care given over the last number of years and thanks to all of the staff and residents of Victoria Haven, where she resided and also thanks to the County Homemakers for the care that they provided to Ma over the past number of years.
