Gerald "Jerry" Francis Martell

Born on July 19, 1940 in Glace Bay, NS. Jerry was the youngest of the sixteen children of John and Amy Martell. His early life was rooted in the remarkable legacy of Flint Island, where his father served as keeper of the famous Flint Island Lighthouse from 1927 - 1945.

A hardworking and dependable man, Jerry worked for 35 years in the construction and ready-mix industry with Jon L Jim Construction and Municipal Ready Mix. Jerry was known to many as "the Marble Man." A gifted and patient craftsman, he carved beautiful statues from Nova Scotia marble and crafted pendants from marble and beach stone, creating one-of-a-kind necklaces. Alongside Elizabeth, his beloved wife of 67 years, he proudly sold his handmade work at the John Harriss Cruise Pavilion Market in Sydney, sharing his talent and a piece of Nova Scotia's natural beauty with countless people.

Jerry leaves behind his devoted wife, Elizabeth; his children, Tom (Pam), Don (Janice), Doreen (Liam) Walton, Tim (Cheryl) and Raymond; as well as his cherished, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. His memory will live on in the family he loved, the home he built and the beautiful creations made by his hands.
