Born in Glace Bay, Jessie was the daughter of the late John and Katherine (Buchanan) Weatherby.
A beloved wife, mother and “Nanny”, Jessie devoted her life to the care and support of her family. Despite leaving school at an early age to care for her dying father as she was the eldest of the family, she was an extremely smart and knowledgeable woman who kept up with the news even to her last days. Although she never achieved her lifelong wish to be a nurse, indeed she nursed many a family member. She had a love of music and plants and inspired this love in others. A very strong, loving woman who had a quick wit, she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Jessie was a member of Knox United Church and was an original member of Knox Unit 67 UCW. A Veteran of World War Two, she was a member of the Canadian Women’s Army Corp (CWAC).
She is survived by daughters Arlene (Barry) Kyle, Bathurst, N.B., and Dr. Karen (Blair) MacDonald, Bedford, N.S.; two grandsons Colin (Olivia) and Blaine (Cassie) Kyle; three granddaughters Katherine, Amy and Jocelyn MacDonald; and three great granddaughters, Reagan, Georgia, and Bree Kyle. She is also survived by sister-in-law Audy Weatherby, Glace Bay and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Jessie was predeceased by her cherished husband of 60 years, Omar, siblings D.J. Weatherby, Ruth MacIntyre, Anne (James) MacVicar, Mildred (Alphonse) McNeil, Mary Lou (Gerry) Munroe and Shirley (Aubrey) MacKenzie.
