It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Madeline Munroe, of Glace Bay, who passed away in Sydney, at the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Madeline was born in Twillingate, NL on October 11, 1946 to Sidney and Hettie (Guy) Watkins and passed on February 17, 2022.
Madeline worked for over 40 years with Scotiabank until her retirement in 2007. Madeline enjoyed picking blueberries, building puzzles, and playing Candy Crush and Sudoku. One of Madeline’s favourite pastimes was reading. Once she picked up a book, she wouldn’t put it down until it was finished. Madeline loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored. Madeline was a strong, caring person who could always be depended upon to lend an ear or a helping hand.
Madeline will be sadly missed by all that knew her. She leaves behind her children: Richard, Mark (Cindy) and Heather (William) Hartlen; grandchildren: Michael, Nichole, Robert, Matthew, Shannon, Callum and Sarah; Great-Grandchildren: Rylan, Lucas and Robert. She also leaves behind brothers: Howard (Brenda), Ken (Lorraine), Ben (Diane) and Hardy (Alisa), sisters: Doreen, Donna (Pat), Karen (Gerald) and Sherry, sister-in-law Dolena Brewster and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Madeline is predeceased by her husband James, her sister Joyce Batschkun, brothers-in-law Sandy Brewster, Leroy MacRury, Art Batschkun, and Gerald Granville; sister-in-law Ella Watkins and dear friend Edie MacDonald.
