

She was born in Birch Grove, Nova Scotia in July 1927 to the late Margaret (Wareham) and Thomas Penny. She was the second oldest of eleven children.
In her younger years, Mary worked at the Glace Bay General Hospital. Later in her life she worked at General instruments. Her most meaningful job in life was being a stay-at-home mother to her 5 children. She spent a significant part of her adult life caring for her sick husband and two sons. Mary enjoyed bingo nights and listening to live music. She cherished going for drives and just reminiscing, often sharing stories about her past.
She will be dearly missed by her surviving siblings Ethel and Wayne (Jan), daughter Judy, grandchildren DJ (Vanessa), Glen (Eleanor), Kristi-Jayne (Jim), Laurel, Jenna, Ally (Mitch), and Aimee (Sarah). Her great grandchildren, Ty, Cole, Max, Jack, Liam, Mikaila and Wilder as well as her adopted great grandchildren Chloe, Abbie, Benjamin & Delaney who will cherish their memories of her. Mary will be fondly remembered by her Minto Street bingo friends.
Mary is predeceased by her parents, husband Allen, eight siblings, sons Tommy & Sam and daughters Marilyn and Glenda.
Mary’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Thelma Dixon & Darrin Boutilier for all their kindness, care and support over the years. Also, many thanks to the doctors and staff at the Moncton Hospital.
There will be a time of gathering from 12 noon up until the commencement of the funeral service at 2pm on Saturday, November 8 at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay.
