Born in Glace Bay, Michael was the son of the late David “Turk” and Clara (MacIntyre) Campbell.
Michael spent his earlier years working with Shores Wholesalers and at the Sydney Steel Plant and later served as a School Crossing Guard. He will be remembered as a very kind and generous person.
He had a passion for collecting hockey and baseball cards, along with his extensive collections of records, CDs, books, and memorabilia. Michael especially enjoyed listening to his records, with favorites including Wilf Carter, Doc Williams, and Slim Dusty. One of his cherished memories was having supper with Slim Dusty in 1994.
Michael was also a familiar face at Tim Hortons on Commercial Street in Glace Bay, (pic above was taken at Tims in 2015) where he enjoyed spending time, having a laugh with the usual crew and getting caught up on all the news in the Post while drinking his tea. It is where he met his best friend, Tammy. (There was a story) Their friendship grew over the years, and he became a part of her family. Michael looked forward to the many Sunday Road trips they shared while listening to Willie’s Roadhouse and telling old stories.
Michael is survived by his sister, Gloria (Reg) Pembleton of Markham, Ontario; his brother, David of Vancouver; and his dear friend, Tammy (Garfield) Campbell of Catalone Gut. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Sheldon.
Michael would like to thank all his friends and neighbours who helped him over the years, whether it was a phone call, a drive to church or into town—your kindness was greatly appreciated.
The family would also like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the ICU and Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their compassionate care.
