Muriel Viola McLellan

It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Muriel Viola McLellan, on May 11, 2019 at Saint John Regional Hospital with loving family at her side.

Born in Mira on October 29,1921, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Barbara Spencer.

Muriel was a retired schoolteacher within the Cape Breton School Board. She was a member of St. Luke’s United Church, Member of the R.C.L Br.5 Donkin, Past President of Sydney Presbyterial U.C.W, Past President of Sydney Presbytery and Past President Rebekah Assembly Atlantic Jurisdiction.

Muriel is survived by daughters Myrna (Gary) Hodge and Joyce (Ian) Andrews; stepdaughter Marley (Les Turnbull) Furlotte; stepsons Peter McLellan (Joan Robinson) and Jack McLellan (Nancy Kingley) ; 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Muriel was predeceased by her first husband, Kenneth Buchanan, second husband Peter McLellan, stepson Stewart McLellan, three brothers and five sisters.

Visitation will be held on Monday May 20, 2019 from 4pm-8pm with Rebekah service from 6-6:15pm in Patten Funeral Home 71 Union St Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday May 21 at 11am, in St. Luke’s United Church Donkin.

In memory of Muriel, donations may be made to St. Luke’s United Church or charity of one’s choice.
