Alfred "(Al)" Carmo Salmon

Al was born November 12, 1938, to William Carmo and Mary Jane Swaney Salmon. He lived in Kansas City, Missouri all his life. He attended East High School where he was a standout football player and graduated with the class of 1956. Al was grateful for the lifelong friendships he made there.

Al went on to attend Central Missouri State College where he extended his football career for 2 more years. He later played semi-pro football for the Kansas City Rivals in the early 1960’s. Al always loved all sports and was an avid tennis player as well.

In 1959 he married Sarah Jane Shelton, a union that later added two sons, Jeff and Steve.

Al began his career in the printing business at Higgins Bindery, later moving to Henry Wurst, Inc where he was the manager of printing operations for 36 years. He retired in 2003.

When he retired, Al became very active, competing in the Senior Olympics across the Midwest region until he was 80 years old, He won hundreds of medals, throwing the shot put and discus. Al was always an avid golfer and once retired he was able to play multiple rounds of golf every week. He developed a tremendous group of friends who were important companions both on and off the golf course.

Al was a model father to his two sons, and a devoted Christian. He was active at Leeds Baptist Church as a deacon and choir member and later attended Northgate Baptist Church.

Al is preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Jane Salmon, his beloved wife of 67 years Sarah J. Salmon, and his siblings Wilma McCaulley, Ellen Potts and Floyd Salmon. He is survived by his two sons Jeffrey S. (Julie) and Steven B. Salmon, and his sister Elizabeth McPike, along with multiple nieces and nephews and their families.

Visitation and Reception will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. at Newcomer’s White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, MO 64119. There will be a private internment at a later date.

Al’s sharp mind and cheerful demeanor will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
