Carey Lee Ruder 85, of Parkville, MO entered into Heaven on February 24, 2024. Born in Hays, Kansas, the youngest of 5 children of James and Lydia Ruder. Carey’s siblings are Alvin Ruder, Lee Brannan, Lollie Shaffer and Kenneth Ruder, all now deceased.
The family moved to Kansas City when Carey was very young and he attended kindergarten thru 8th grade at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. Upon graduation from Lillis High School, Carey took a job working in a cafeteria but also answered an ad by mail titled, “Learn to Draft”, offering a course through Chicago Technical College. It took him a year to complete this schooling remotely and he soon took a position as a draftsman with Great Lakes Pipeline where he worked until 1960, when he then accepted a position with Panhandle Eastern Pipeline. In 1988 Panhandle Eastern moved their Kansas City operation to their headquarters in Houston, TX. Carey followed them to Houston where he worked for one more year and retired early in 1989.
Then back in Kansas City, retirement was short-lived when he accepted a position with MJ Harden, an ariel mapping company. Carey was the project manager and would use his decades of experience drafting pipeline documents to help his company to convert analog maps into digital maps. Carey finally took a well- earned retirement in 1999.
Following the retirement of both Carey and Sandi, they have literally traveled the world visiting Africa, England, France, Italy, Peru, Hawaii, and others.
Carey and Sandi also own a home at Lake of the Ozarks and for many years he’s enjoyed, fishing, boating, dining out, having friends in to play cards and going to The Bagnell Dam Strip where he always enjoyed fresh oysters and getting his beloved fudge candy from Grandma’s Candy Kitchen.
Carey is survived by his wife Sandi Ruder, daughters Susan Ruder-Bonnewell of Prescott Valley AZ, Cheryl Ruder of Kansas City and son David Ruder of Kansas City.
Carey touched the lives of many and will be sadly and deeply missed. He will remain in our hearts forever.
In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to the Mayo Clinic.
