Clyde was born July 22, 1938, in Gary, Indiana to Clyde and Dorothy Brown. He grew up in Mound City, Missouri where he graduated from Mound City High School. He attended Northwest Missouri State University, earning a Bachelor's degree in education in 1960, and later earned a Master's from the University of Central Missouri.
On August 14, 1960, Clyde married his high school sweetheart Patricia Ann Porter, beginning a lifelong journey rooted in love and devotion to family.
Clyde dedicated much of his life to education. He began his career in 1961, teaching physical education and coaching wrestling at Antioch Junior High where he made a lasting impact on his students both in the classroom and on the mat. He concluded his career as an assistant principal at Eastgate Junior High, retiring in 1985.
Even in retirement, Clyde remained active and committed to his community, working in maintenance for NKC School District. He took great pride in keeping the school grounds beautifully maintained.
After the passing of his first wife, Clyde found love again and married Garla Croley on December 26, 2003. Together, they shared a love of travel, spending many years exploring in their RV. For a decade, they enjoyed winters as "snowbirds" in Port Aransas, Texas.
Clyde had many passions, including stained glass, driving 18 wheelers, boating, golfing and caring for his lawn and the grounds at Fairview Christian Church- especially when it involved his beloved John Deere equipment. He was proud to have achieved two hole-in-ones and was an active member of the Northland Duffers golf club. He also cherished time spent at the Lake of the Ozarks with family and friends, a place he continued to visit until shortly before his passing.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; his wives Ann and Garla; his son Bruce; and sister Francis Huntsman.
He is survived by his daughter Amy Miller and her husband Jon of Shawnee, Kansas; his son David Brown and his wife Sherri of Lenexa, Kansas; and his grandchildren, Andrew, Lauren, Brody, Mackenzie and James.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Clyde's memory.
Clyde will be forever remembered for his dedication to family, his strong work ethic, and the many lives he touched throughout his years in education and beyond. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE ANTIOCH RD, GLADSTONE, MO 64119, US, on April 1, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
