Fred was born on May 2, 1933 in St. Joseph, MO to Joe and Freda Holferty and spent his formative years there before moving to California with the rest of his family.
While in California he joined the Navy and was based in San Diego for the duration of his service time.
Fred married his wife Onilee in 1957 and they moved back to Missouri, making Kansas City their new home. He worked several years in Rental Management for Mohawk Securities Co. before starting his own successful accounting and tax preparation business. This provided a decades-long opportunity for him to make a comfortable living doing work that he enjoyed until he transitioned into a well-deserved retirement.
Fred and Onilee had two sons, Scott and Kirk, and raised them to be kind, responsible and successful adults. His sons remember him as a loving but strict father who encouraged them to pursue their goals and to always do their best, whether it be in work, sports or life in general.
Fred was a faithful and dedicated member of Northgate Baptist Church for over 50 years, serving as a Deacon and treasurer of the church as well as being an eager and willing volunteer for whatever opportunities to serve were made available.
Fred is preceded in death by both his parents as well as his five siblings.
He is survived by his wife Onilee, sons Scott (Christie) and Kirk (Kerri), grandchildren Hailey Briggs (Leslie), Paige DeLong (Kyle), Jordan Mason (Jeff) and Christian Holferty. He is also survived by great-grandsons Max Briggs and Daniel DeLong.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital – Cystic Fibrosis Research.
The family would also like to thank the hospital staff of Cameron Regional Medical Center for their care and compassion during Fred’s final days.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.dwnwhitechapel.com for the Holferty family.
