

Garlan accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age and was a member of North Kansas City Baptist Church, where she had worked as church secretary for 29 years. When she moved to Kansas City she began work at the Bomber Plant during WWII in support of the U.S. war effort. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially at the lake house, which was a central point for family gatherings.
Garlan was born on February 10, 1925 in McFall, MO, the daughter of the late F.K. and Edna (Adkisson) Robertson. Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Wethington (Mike) and Debra Minnick (Ron); grandchildren, Michelle Grant (Jason), Heather Tankersley (Greg), Carrie Bowman (Andy), and Jesse Minnick; and great-grandchildren, Izzy, Alex, Audriana, Grant and Jackson Tankersley. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Austin.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 14, 2014 at White Chapel Funeral Home with visitation an hour prior to service. Memorials are suggested to the Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, 6601 Winchester Ave, Suite 220, Kansas City, MO 64133.
