Very shortly after coming to USDA with Farm Service Agency, Gerald was thrust into some of the most complex architecture that had ever been at FSA. Multiple instances of SAP plus the usual custom code and everything else. I had many 2 hour meetings with Gerald and others as we worked through all of the issues.  Throughout all of these discussions he remained most of all extremely kind to everyone. Secondly  very open minded, and last but not least very capable of making the right decision with his intelligence and logic. I enjoyed working with him and am very saddened by his loss.  My thoughts and condolences to his family who were his main focus at all times. So many stories and pictures.  Rest In Peace Gerald you will be missed by many.

My best memory of Gerald is of how kind and encouraging he was to our then 6 year old Langston when he was learning to play violin.  Gerald never failed to ask lane about his lessons or practices whenever we were hanging out, and often asked him to play for him. I also remember how he always knew the most random facts when we played trivia games during game night and seemed surprised that no one else knew them. Because of Gerald I know what "From soup to nuts" means🤣.

Very early in my time coming to USDA with Farm Service Agency ca. 2017-2019, I began to frequently find myself sitting in Gerald’s office...with the door shut...as we had open/candid discussions. Very often (okay, always) with his unique and humorous outlook would have us ending the meeting with a much better outlook and some laughter. Gerald is someone who definitely had an impact on me as I worked to improve my contribution to FSA and subsequently the Business Center as well as USDA. Through this process of "discussions/conversations" Gerald helped me to broaden how I looked at challenges/opportunities.

I am so sorry for your loss and I am praying for your family. I remember when we were  in high school and watched you all following in love. You all have to remember as hard as it is. He is in a much better place.  The most important thing is he will always be in your hearts,  soul, and mind.  Along with one day you all will be back together again in heaven.

When we moved to Gideon, Missouri in the first grade, the Pattillo’s were our neighbors. Gerald and I were in the same class until I moved in 3rd grade to Louisiana. Moving back to Missouri and going to 6th grade in Malden, him and his family were the only people I knew. He was always so nice to me. It made starting a new school easier. I wish I would have told him that! I will miss him.

Gerald will always be remembered as such a kind man!! Fond memories of his smile and character will forever be embedded in so many minds. My last memory is our 30th class reunion when Gerald quietly and graciously swept up another classmate from being inappropriate. Gerald was always “that guy” that stood for good!! He was definitely taken too soon but left a warmth in so many hearts! Fly high my friend!! My sincere condolences and prayers for Paula, his children, his brothers and all that were honored to know him!

Uncle Gerald was an amazing Father, Husband, Uncle, and even more. He taught me to golf and always made time to talk with me and have interest in what I was doing as a kid. He loved Aunt Paula and Alle and Alex more than anyone can imagine. He will always be loved and missed!!

Gerald was my Manager for a while at USDA.  I worked with him for years and knew him as a soft-spoken, well-informed, and a calm person.   He kept us on track with how he reasoned that 'everything was going to work out, and if it didn't, then find another way.'  He was an awesome person to work with.  So sorry for your loss.

We are so blessed God brought Gerald and Paula into our lives. From vacations to swim afternoons that carried well into the night Gerald always welcomed everyone and had the most carefree personality.  We will miss him and are so honored to have called him a friend!

Gerald was my cousin and only a year older than me. He was always very even tempered and just pleasant to be around always.  He was smart as a whip but had tons of personality. Gerald was a devoted husband and father, he left this world way to early. Rip brother you will be missed by everyone that knew you.

We will forever cherish all the beautiful memories made. Malden, Louisiana, Springfield…. Those early years were some of the best because of the time spent with Gerald and  Paula. Lots of smiles as we remember all the fun we had!

Uncle G was a great man. He will be remembered for his kindness, love and support for his family and friends.  My kids cherish the memories we got to make with him, Aunt Paula, Alle & Alex.  He will be greatly missed.  We find comfort knowing that we will see him again in heaven and that he is no longer suffering.

I met Gerald in late 2010, and we have been friends ever since.  We shared the love of golf and company of good friends.   I will always cherish the time I spent in Gerald's company, whether it was talking about work, golf, or any other topic you can think of.  I will miss you dear friend.  May you Rest in Peace.

Gerald, thank you! Thank you for taking such special and loving care of my sister. Thank you for the loving and caring niece and nephew you gave us. Thank you for your friendship that made you more of a brother than a brother in law. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge, that seemed endless, with us any time we asked. And thank you for your service to our country. I am grateful you are no longer in pain, but sorry we have to be without you in our daily lives. You will always be in our thoughts, memories, and our hearts.

When I think of Gerald I think of his smile, his sense of humor, how soft spoken he was, and his love for and gentleness with children and animals. 
He was one of the most intelligent people I’ve known. He has so many interests and was always learning new things.
I had the deepest respect for him and knew if he shared an opinion it was worth serious consideration.
It was obvious he loved his family and he extended a measure of that love to his in-laws. 
The sadness we feel at his passing is profound. Our hearts ache for his family and the loss they are going through. 
We are comforted by the promise that he is free of the pain that cancer caused. And we rejoice that we will one day all gather together as a family again in heaven.
