He was born November 16, 1942, in Elkhart, Indiana, son of George and Dorothy (Darst) Wogomon. The family lived in Elkhart and later moved to Dorothy’s native region, the Madison, Missouri, area. Jerry graduated Moberly High School in 1960 and attended Moberly (Missouri) Junior College. On April 11, 1964, he married Ellen Morris in Moberly, Missouri. They moved to Kansas City, Kansas, in 1964 and Jerry worked at General Motors.
The couple had two sons, Scott Anthony, born in 1965, and Brian Quinn, born in 1968. The family moved to Kansas City, Missouri, in 1968, as Jerry took a job at the Ford Motor Company Assembly Plant in Claycomo. A third son, Grant Eric, was born in North Kansas City in 1970. Jerry was promoted to supervisor in commercial trim in 1973 and went on to enjoy a 30-year career with Ford. He retired in 1998. He was a licensed gun dealer, reloaded ammunition and was a certified hunter safety instructor for years.
The family enjoyed youth sports where Jerry often served as coach and Ellen served as “transportation director.” The Wogomons took summer vacations, usually to warm locales where they enjoyed sight-seeing and the beach, even deep-sea fishing off Miami Beach and in the Gulf of Mexico.
Jerry enjoyed a full life dedicated to his family and friends. He was an avid gun collector in his later years. He enjoyed hunting/shooting, fishing/boating, golf and watching old movies, especially those with John Wayne. One of his favorites was The Quiet Man, which included the Robert Louis Stevenson poem Requiem:
Under the wide and starry sky, Dig the grave and let me lie. Glad did I live and gladly die, And I laid me down with a will.
This be the verse you grave for me: Here he lies where he longed to be; Home is the sailor, home from sea, And the hunter home from the hill.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Brian. Jerry will be missed by his wife, Ellen, of the home; his son, Scott, and wife, Sheila (Yoder), and granddaughter, Emma Grace, of Blue Springs, Missouri; his son, Grant, of Liberty, and grandson, Alex, and wife, Ashlynn (Stumph), of Liberty.
