
Harry VanDoran Gabbert, Jr., 69, Kansas City, MO passed away Tuesday July, 19, 2016 at his home. Harry was a 1965 graduate of Wentworth Military Academy. He served his country honorably in Vietnam and Germany from 1966 to 1969 in the Army, receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star among other medals and commendations. Harry received his degree in Biology July 30, 1976 and his degree in Geology December 22, 1981 at UMKC. He first worked for the Army Corps of Engineers as a Geologist, transferring to the EPA. He retired in 2011. Harry was an avid gun collector, hunter and marksman. He was a member of the VFW and the NRA. He loved all things outdoors and always had a motorcycle. He married Melissa McCall, March 16, 1974 and together they had 3 wonderful daughters, Heidi Gabbert, Greta Gabbert-Laman and Ingrid Dalton and 2 sons-in-law, Zac Laman and David Dalton. He leaves behind 5 grandchildren, Hunter, River and Gunner Cronk, Evie-June Laman and Sydney Dalton. He also leaves behind 3 brothers, Tim, Rex and Chris Gabbert. A funeral service will be held at White Chapel Funeral Home at 2:00pm, Sunday, July 24, 2016, with a visitation beginning one hour prior. Internment will take place at Leavenworth National Cemetery Monday, July 25, 2016 at 10:00am.
