
John Holliday Canole, 92, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 9th at home with his wife Shirley (Thomas) Canole, niece Susan Kim (Canole) Crooks and her husband Bill Crooks by his side. John was born July 8, 1923 in New Franklin, Missouri, the oldest son of John Thomas Canole and Lottie Mae Holliday Canole. In addition to these family members, John is survived by a Great Nephew, Bill Crooks III; Great Niece, Susan Crooks Zoeller; four Great-Great nephews; and one Great-Great Niece. John was preceded in death by brother James Clemont Canole. John received most of his elementary schooling in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Northeast High School in 1941. John attended Kansas City Jr. College for two years and then entered the U.S. Army Air Force serving as a Remote Control Turret Mechanic. John served in the Pacific and was honorably discharged Dec. 31, 1945. John was a General Foreman in Packing & Shipping Bolts and Forged Products at Armco Steel Corporation. He worked 35 years, retiring in 1982. John was married to Doris Frakes until her death in 1982. The last love of his life was Shirley (Thomas) Canole. They were married 30 years enjoying traveling and showing registered Bulldogs and Boston Terriors. John was a member of Budd Park Christian Church in Kansas City, MO where he attended as a child. As an adult, John moved his membership to Gracemor Christian Church, where he was a member for over thirty years. In addition, John was a 50 year member of Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Missouri, Sheffield #625 and a 46 year member of the American Legion Tirey J. Ford, Post 21. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at White Chapel Cemetery at 1:00 pm on Friday, Sept. 18. John was cremated so there will be no visitation.
