(03/12/1940 – 10/19/2024)
Mark Robert Clegg, of Smithville, Missouri, departed this life to await the Resurrection Day in Paradise, unshackled from his corruptible body, on Saturday morning, October 19, 2024, at 84 years of age. He was born into this world in Kansas City, Missouri, on March 12, 1940. He graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1958, and married Jean Lynn Walker on June 6, 1959. Mark and Jeanie have five children: Laurie Cascairo, Lesa Raup, Mark Robert (Rob) Clegg II, John Christopher Clegg, and Allison Wurtz. Mark is survived by his wife, Jeanie, his five children, and ten grandchildren: Caleb Cascairo, Jeremiah Cascairo, Abigail Cascairo Finley, Mia Sherwood, Tessa Sherwood, Alyssa Clegg Sink, Mason Clegg, Alayna Clegg, Kaley Calhoun, and Jilian Whitehead. He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren, his brother, James Clegg of Rogersville, Missouri, and one nephew, Stephen Ellis Clegg.
Mark worked as a machinist for 45 years in North Kansas City, Missouri, beginning at age 13 at Clegg Machine Works. Later, he and his son, Mark Robert Clegg II, opened their own business, Action Machine Works, where his son is currently the sole owner. Mark was a reserve police officer for North Kansas City in younger adult years, earning special marksmanship awards. He was a deacon at Vivion Road Church of Christ in Kansas City, Missouri, for 15 years, and for the past 33 years, Mark and Jeanie have been members at Nashua Church of Christ in Kansas City.
Mark has been well known in his community for his love of horse breeding, trail riding, cattle farming, hunting and fishing, gun collecting, and all things mechanical, including motorcycles, ATV’s and convertibles. For the past 15 years, Mark has suffered from debilitating pain and chronic illnesses that have progressively limited his activities and his ability to communicate. His wife of 65 years, Jeanie Clegg, has been a dedicated companion and steadfast caregiver for Mark at their home till the end of his life. Even through the last difficult years, Mark’s good nature and admirable qualities were evident. His loyalty, his strong work ethic, his generosity, his honesty, his love of children, his sense of humor, and his love of God’s many blessings (especially desserts and the Kansas City Chiefs) will be missed by many family members and friends.
