He was born on April 19, 1925, in Memphis, Tennessee to Paul C. Vescovo, Sr. and Nellie Poletti Vescovo.
He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, from June 1943 to May 1946, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the US Navy Medical Corps, Reserves, and served as Regimental Surgeon for the 24th Marines in the 1960’s for over 20 years and retired in 1985 with the rank of Captain.
After his service in WW II, he accomplished his childhood dream to become a physician, completing his medical studies at the University of Tennessee, School of Medicine in Memphis Tennessee in 1952. He completed his internship and residency at St. Joseph Hospital, Memphis Tennessee in 1956.
He began his practice in internal medicine and family practice in Smithville Missouri in 1957. He continued his medical practice in the northland Kansas City area for the next 55 years until his retirement in 2011 at the age of 85. Dr. Vescovo also served as the appointed Medical Examiner of Clay County Missouri from 1977 to 1993.
Dr. Vescovo was also a skilled carpenter crafting a number of hutches, chairs, bookshelves and benches for family and friends. He was an avid hunter and target shooter and did his own reloading. He enjoyed working in his yard, exercising, and spending time with his wife and family. He was a voracious reader and maintained an extensive library.
Dr. Vescovo was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Karen Vescovo; son, Joseph Vescovo; step-son, Tyron Byrd; and first wife, Mary Patricia Scruggs (Fatino).
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dianne Vescovo; daughter, Beth Couch of Smithville, Missouri; Richard Couch of Wichita, Kansas; sons, Paul (Barbara) Vescovo of Smithville, Missouri and Patrick Vescovo of Kansas City, Missouri, and stepdaughter, Tiffany (Jeff) DuCoing Kansas City, Missouri. He also leaves 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
A visitation for Dr. Vescovo will be held Monday, April 14, 2025, from 10 to 11:30 AM at White Chapel Funeral Home, (6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119). A celebration of life will occur Monday, April 14, 2025, at 11:30 AM at the funeral home. Burial with full Military Honors will follow the services at Resurrection Cemetery, (5001 NE Cookingham Dr, Kansas City, MO 64156).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Paul's name to the Salvation Army or to your favorite charity.
