Shirley Ann Sims, age 89, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed peacefully into God’s waiting arms on May 31, 2025. She was born December 12, 1935, in Eva, Alabama to the late Joseph and Willie Clyde Williams. She was a member of the Nashua Church of Christ in Kansas City, Missouri. Shirley grew up in Hanceville, Alabama. She married Mancil T. Sims on October 14, 1954. The couple made their home in Birmingham, Alabama and raised two children, Rex Sims and Sherri Clegg. Shirley lived in the Kansas City, Missouri, area the last twenty years of her life.
Shirley graduated from high school in Hanceville, Alabama. She was employed as a receptionist by Carraway Methodist Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Shirley is survived by her husband, Mancil Sims of Kansas City, Missouri. Her son, Rex Sims (Judy) of Huntsville, Alabama; her daughter, Sherri Clegg (Rob) Smithville, Missouri. She has 4 grandchildren: Dennis Sims (Stephanie) of Center Point, Alabama; Alyssa Sink (Jake) of Kansas City, Missouri; Mason Clegg and Alayna Clegg of Smithville, Missouri. Shirley has 3 great grandchildren: Sibella, Balian, and Lyanna Sims.
Shirley enjoyed going to the beach with her family in Gulf Shores, Alabama, as well as traveling to Gatlinburg, Tennessee; Colorado and Hawaii. Shirley was the president of the Women’s Home Demonstration Club, loved gardening, and was known for her beautiful flowers.
A visitation for Shirley will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, at Newcomer’s White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, MO 64119, followed by a celebration of her life from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. She will be buried in a private family graveside service at White Chapel Cemetery.
The family expresses its appreciation for the outstanding care Shirley received from The Oxford Grand and Ascend Hospice.
