

Vern was the beloved husband of Sandra Lou Armstrong Bohlmeyer for 67 years. He was the loving father of Staci Van Slyke (Doug) and Jeff Bohlmeyer (Jane). Vern was the proud grandfather of Shawn Van Slyke (Katie), Sarah Sutherland (Theron), Craig Borchardt (Beth), John Borchardt (Heather), Juli Hustoft (Cleat), and Curtis Bohlmeyer (Laurel); great-grandfather of Logan, Madeline, and Josie Van Slyke, Samantha McClung (Bryson), Alexis Helman (Alex), Victoria Borchardt, Isabelle Borchardt, and Jackson Hustoft; great-great grandfather of Sofia Helman. He was the brother of the late Eldon Bohlmeyer, Ronald Bohlmeyer, Donnalene Liska, and Delmar Bohlmeyer. Vernon is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Vern was born in Plymouth, Nebraska. He and his family lived near Lewiston, Nebraska where he graduated from high school. Vern served in the United States Air Force from 1951–1955 during the Korean War. Upon returning home form the war he attended the University of Nebraska where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration. He and Sandy met in the winter of 1956 and married August 2, 1958. After his college graduation they moved to Kansas City where he began his 30-year career as an Industrial Engineer with Ford Motor Company. Their marriage was blessed with 2 children. In 1960 they became charter members of Bethel United Church of Christ where Vern served multiple roles through the years. After retiring in 1990, Vern and Sandy traveled extensively with friends and family. In 2004 they moved to a villa home in Kansas City North where he continued spending time with Sandy, the love of his life of 67 years and his children and grandchildren whom he loved very much.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Sunday, December 21, 2025 from 1-3 p.m. at White Chapel Funeral Home (6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, MO 64119). The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Bethel United Church of Christ (4900 NE Parvin Rd, Kansas City, MO 64117). A committal service will take place immediately following the funeral at White Chapel Cemetery in Gladstone, Missouri. Please share memories and condolences on the White Chapel Funeral Home website.
