She was born May 22, 1938, to Alvie and Myrtle Homer in Harlem, Missouri. Harlem was a small community nestled between the Missouri River and North Kansas City, Missouri and at the time was a beautiful little town. Everyone knew and cared for each other, and no one ever worried about locking their doors. She talked often about all the wonderful memories she had as a child growing up there.
At age 15 the family moved across the river to the “big city”, and she thought her life was over, that is until the day she met Joe Liles this tall and skinny good-looking guy working at the corner service station near their home and as the saying goes, “the rest is history”.
She never was a career person, but her family was her life. Her granddaughters were her pride and joy. She was also very proud of her three children and especially her husband Joe who had been in her life since she was 15 years old. She loved them all so very much. She was the most wonderful and devoted mother and grandmother and she truly taught all of us what love and family is and should be.
She leaves behind the love of her life Joe Liles; daughter, Cheryl and son-in-law, Bob Chamberlain; son, Bill Liles, son, Terry Liles and daughter-in-law, Kathy; two granddaughters, Caillie Cletcher (husband, Ryan) and Grace Liles; and brother, Gary Homer.
Proceeding her in death were her father and mother, Alvie and Myrtle Homer; brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Cleta Homer, and sister-in law, Alice Homer.
She loved angels and gospel music especially Elvis and The Gaithers. One thing she always said was that she wanted lots of music at her funeral. So now she is singing with the angels to her Lord and Savior Jesus and the music never stops. Sing on mom. We love and miss you though we will not say goodbye but simply good night for now.
Services will be at Northland Cathedral (101 NW 99th St, Kansas City, Missouri 64155) where she was a member on Thursday November 9, at 6 PM, with a visitation one hour prior at the church. In lieu of flowers, the Family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association (5800 Foxridge Dr. Mission, Kansas 66202).
