WINIFRED (WINNIE) GERALDINE HODO, 93, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Heritage Village Assisted Living Facility in Gladstone, MO. Winnie was born January 30, 1927 at home in Black Jack, MO to Joseph Israel Bland and Stella Josephine (Grimes) Bland, the last of eight children.
Winnie graduated from El Dorado Springs, MO High School on a Friday night and interviewed for a job at the VFW in Kansas City on Saturday and started working that following Monday. Moving in with her older brothers Clayton and Nolan she enjoyed all the fun times they had with their numerous friends. One of these friends introduced her to a handsome guy by the name of R.V. Hodo. They married on October 20, 1950 and to this union a daughter (Marlene), and a son (Kent) were born.
Winnie retired from the Gladstone Water Department in 1989 and built her dream home where she and R.V. lived until his death in 2016. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends along with keeping the place immaculate. You always knew there was an empty chair and something good to eat at the Hodo's.
Winnie enjoyed being with people. She would give them one of her smiles and have a friend for life. She attended Platte Woods United Methodist Church and loved the Seekers Sunday School class and all the people in it. Even during the last years when dementia began to set in and words became more difficult to find she would smile and wave both of her hands to let you know she was glad to see you.
She is preceded in death by her husband R.V. and her son Kent. She is survived by her devoted daughter Marlene Hodo of Kansas City.
Due to the current Covid-19 situation, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
