Beryl Eileen (Stacey) Johnson, 81, of Phoenix, Arizona, went home to a higher plane on Friday, April 2nd, 2021 - with her beloved daughter by her side. Beryl was born in Broughton Astley, a village in the Harborough district of Leicestershire, England, to Lottie (Arnold) and Leonard Stacey - the youngest of their three children.
Beryl met and married the love of her life, Chris, while he was stationed with the United States Air Force near her village. Chris won her over with his “Yankee” charm and heart of gold (and her father with a pack of American cigarettes, or so the story goes), and they began their lifelong journey as a military family. Beryl absolutely loved when her husband was reassigned, as she looked forward to each new adventure and every magical destination around the globe. Together on their travels, they had four beautiful children, each born during a different experience while Chris was still actively serving.
Having seen all there was to see, Beryl and Chris settled in Phoenix, Arizona to retire from that life. It was there that Beryl really got to enjoy all the exquisite things she collected from lots of different countries all over the world, and she somehow always knew exactly where to get more. She was also fond of needlepoint and cross stitch, which she often gave as gifts to her family and friends. She had an enthusiasm for flowers and gardening - growing irises, roses, wild flowers, and even some vegetables in her garden but her favorite flowers were pink carnations. Beryl greatly loved to listen to music and if you turned on her favorites, you can bet you would see her start dancing and singing around the house.
Beryl was a very kind and soft spoken person who never raised her voice, but her words were always invaluable. Beryl’s purpose and passion for living was devoting herself to her family, especially her children and grandchildren, who captured her whole heart. Her love was unconditional, no matter what you did, you knew you could always come home to her. Beryl was full of life and strength, she showed you how anything was possible with the right people behind you.
She will be remembered for her smile, compassion, sharp wit, and keen eye - but most of all, her ability to bring people together regardless of race, class, or circumstance. A house is not four walls and a door, but “wherever your people are”, and no one made that more evident than Beryl. There were no strangers in her home, only family.
Beryl leaves behind her children, Kevin, Mike (Sandy), JoAnne (Mike); grandchildren, Joshua (Lindsay), Nicole (Ted), Charlotte, Michael, Steven (Sarah), Phillip (Kaitlyn), Lorelei (Ian); great grandchildren, Theodore, Christian, Angel, Elexis, Kyler, Arian, Alexandra, Cole, Audree, Liara and Kaelynn; brother, John and her best friend for over 60 years, Margaret.
Beryl is preceded by her true love Chris; her mother and father Lottie and Leonard Stacey; her son Bruce; sister Joan; and aunt Marta.
The service for Beryl will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at noon at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary in the Harmony Venue. You will have an opportunity to share a story or a memory of Beryl so the family would like to invite you to think of something to say.
