Donald Lee Riegel, 91, of Phoenix, passed away Saturday, June 9th, 2018 at his home care facility in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born October 26th, 1926 in Jackson, Ohio, to Walter Benjamin Riegel and Garnet Martindale Riegel. He married Dorothy Corn in Ohio at Four Mile Christian Church on July 10, 1949.
He is survived by his brother, Fred Riegel; two daughters, DeeAnn Snyder, husband Duke Snyder, of Aurora, CO, and Dondra Kulcher, husband Joe Kulcher, of Glendale, AZ; two grandsons, David Baker, wife Katrina Baker, and Daniel Baker, wife Ashley Baker; one step-granddaughter Tara Kulcher; and five great-grandchildren, Benjamin Fugate, Aaron Baker, Layla Baker, Chloe Steele-Mack and Owen Baker.
Donald’s father Walter, mother Garnet, wife Dorothy and brothers Bob and Bill preceded him in death.
Donald was a long time resident of Phoenix where he lived since leaving his childhood home in Jackson, Ohio in June 1969. He was forced to stop attending school to help on the family farm, later obtaining his GED and completing trade school in order to become an auto mechanic.
He loved to fish, enjoyed entertaining and playing board games with his friends, and family. He also loved traveling across the country with his wife when they could, as well as going on camping trips with his grandchildren all across Arizona and Utah. He had an infectious personality, loving to tell stories about his upbringing, travels, and embellishing on truly how big the fish he caught was.
The visitation is from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on June 18th, 2018 at West Resthaven Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 AM on June 18th, 2018, also at West Resthaven Funeral Home. The burial will be at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale, AZ.
