Our loving Mother, Grandmother, and great-grandmother Florence (Flo) (nee Turoldo) Guzzetta aka “GRANDMA GO GO” (affectionately named by her 5 Grandchildren), passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025. She enjoyed 66 years of married life to Lou Guzzetta before his passing on December 27, 2010. She was born on February 23, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan to John and Rose Turoldo (Nee) Dontero and hit the ground running!
She began working at a young age with her siblings picking vegetables and hauling 100-pound bags of beans to the waiting trucks to supplement her family’s income. The farm is where she met, fell in love with, and married Lou, her loving husband on October 21, 1944. Shortly after they were married he answered his call to duty for World War II. Their first son, David George, was born in December 1945, Richard (Rick) John #2 son followed in 1949 and Gary Louis #3 completed the “My 3 Sons” trilogy in 1954! She raised them with a mix of love, discipline, and playful competition. She always found the energy to share time with them for all their activities. Throughout her life, she had many interesting jobs. Two of the most memorable ones were making rifles at Winchester Gun Factory during World War II in Silver Creek NY and 15 years at Sperry in Arizona as an inspector for gyros that were part of the space program.
She was the heart and soul of her family with a whirlwind of love, laughter, energy, food, and cherished traditions mixed with a mischievous twinkle in her eye and a tendency to walk and drive a little too fast. Hence, Grandma Go Go! Whether it was the warmth of family gatherings, the comfort of her cooking, or the joy she freely shared, she left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She also found time to crochet sweaters and vests and make rosaries with her Legion of Mary friends.
Her Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life. She lived her faith through prayer, acts of kindness, and steadfast belief that touched everyone around her. Her grandchildren have fond memories of going to church to pray the rosary and to care centers to pray with the residents who were preparing to meet Jesus. Heather’s loving husband Rick frequently visited her and her new circle of friends at MorningStar of Arrowhead to play and sing songs from their era for the residents. It was beautiful to watch Flo and her friends come to life as they remembered songs from their youth and joined in the singing.
There are many more happy memories that will be shared at the viewing and funeral mass.
She leaves behind her children Rick (Janie), Gary, and daughter-in-law Phyllis. Grandchildren: Jen Hatfield (Bob), Tricia (Dave Schmidt)), Cara, Heather Calderone (Rick), Ryan (Gina). Great grandchildren: Jake (Bre), Nathan, Cason, Maggie, Lucy, Josh, Zach, Noah (Crista), Marissa, Jonah (Sadie), Rocco, and Blaize, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her loving husband Lou and her son David. Her siblings Mary, Virginia, Eva, Helen, Rosemary, Louie, Eddie, and Patty also predeceased her.
We will miss her profoundly but Thank You, Jesus, for giving us the gift of Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma Flo. We will honor her by carrying forward the lessons she taught us – CHERISH FAMILY, work hard, love deeply, give generously, walk in faith, and treasure the memories.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in her memory to St. Vincent De Paul Society at the location of your choice or your favorite charity.
