I ran across this obit today and wanted to share a memory of "Skillet" as a child. My uncle, Paul, and him were childhood friends and I remember the friendship they shared. He was a great friend to my uncle and for that I'm forever grateful.

Howard Devine III was one of my oldest friends... from elementary, Jr High and High School in Indianapolis.I have fond memories of Howard especially dancing to one of his favorite songs: "Knock On Wood".  It's been played on the radio quite regularly for weeks now.  I think Howard must be still enjoying the music.  Howard would want you guys to keep dancing to the memories.

I want to thank all of my family and friends who send their kinds words and prayers for my father Howard L.DeVine III who passed away.
My father served in the U.S. Marines for 20 years and while he was there he was always in touch with his family. I'm very proud of my father the man we all knew and loved.  He always made a call to see how everyone is doing in their lives.  Dad will be truly missed, but he'll never be forgotten. I'm very fortunate to have had a dad like him to be able to talk to about personal things as I grew up. Miles and time separated us but never our love for each other. To my brothers and sisters, I love you all very much and each of you will always carry a special place in my heart. May the love of those around you help you through the days ahead. 
Dad will be missed by all who loved him. Dad I love you!

I can only express with sadness your departure from here on earth. We know you are in a better place and free from pain and sickness.
We thank you for your Military service and for the sacrifices you made for each of us. You were an excellent soldier and warrior and received many awards and decorations for your dedicated service.

God blessed us with two beautiful and precious daughters which you always spoke highly of and said  how proud you were of them both through the years.They are a treasure to us and you cherished them so much. We the Richardson Family are very sorry for the lost of Howard L. Devine III, but at the same time we would love to THANK YOU for serving this great country and protecting our family. God Bless and We will be praying for God love and comfort at this difficult time.

How do you say good bye to someone that has been there for you for 40 years...even when he was'nt there he always was. It all started in 1972 at the club on Camp Pendelton and you swept me off my feet...all the times we had are a cherished memory now...the bad ones long forgotten. The sadness of the children we lost was only lifted by the birth of our son Kevin who has grown into a wonderful man. I thank you for him and our memories. I miss you my gunny and wish you God's speed to your final duty station. I will always remember our life with fondness. I love you.

We will all come together to celebrate the life of Howard L. Devine III on Nov, 26 2012. The memorial service will be held @2pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. The location address is 23029 North Cave Creek Rd Phoenix, Az 85024. The ceremony will be about 30 minutes, so for anyone that would like to speak a few words, just know that we have a time limit at the memorial, but can further share at the reception:) The reception will immediately follow after the service the location is to be determined.
