Born in Greenfield, Tennessee on February 9, 1931 to Ruby (Porter) and Finis Hawks. He grew up in Greenfield and enlisted in the United States Army in 1949 and was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was assigned to Company D 187th Airborne and fought in the Korean War, was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart.
Before leaving for Korea, he married Sue Nell Reid on June 7, 1950. He had two daughters and two sons that he and his wife raised primarily in Chicago, Illinois where he worked as a machinist. In 1970 he and his family moved west to Phoenix, Arizona and worked as a truck driver.
He loved road trips, fishing and watching old westerns on TV. He was always active in his church, serving God and others and most of all loved his family well.
He leaves his wife, Sue of 69+ years, a daughter, Brenda Shea (husband, Chris) of Carlsbad, California, a daughter, Linda Hawks of Peoria, Arizona, a son, David Hawks (wife, Theresa) of Mount Vernon, Arkansas, and a son, Mark Hawks (wife, Kathleen) of Phoenix, Arizona. He leaves one sister, Elsie Baker of Wellston, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Cecil Hawks and James Hawks and one sister, Norah Mae Collins.
He had eight grandchildren, Melissa, Theresa, Colin, Brian, Caitlin, Nikolas, Kayla and Kareena and four great grandchildren, Mason, Austin, Andy and Skylar and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will take place on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 10:00 am at West Resthaven Chapel with viewing at 9:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warriors Project, https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org
