John spent 20 years in the United States Air Force, where he retired as a Tech Sergeant in 1973. During that time he was stationed in Washington, D.C., Germany, Altus, Oklahoma, Korea, Guam and Glendale, Arizona. He received his GED through the Air Force in 1957. John also spent 23 years working for Fry's Grocery Store and was a grade school volunteer for 15 years.
John enjoyed watching sports, game shows and playing golf. He was well known in his neighborhood for his bright and beautiful rose garden that stretched all across his property.
John was married to Mary Lou Cupp from 1958 until she passed away in 2003. He is survived by their daughter, Zelma (John) Williams of Peoria, AZ, grandsons Brandon Gant of Glendale, AZ and Alan Gant of Henderson, NV, along with his brothers: Shirley (Connie) of Haymarket, VA and Mike (Florence) of Richardsville, VA.
John is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years; Mary Mayhugh, his parents, Pendleton and Nettie Mayhugh, his sisters Helen, Ruby and Betty and his brothers Dick, Sonny and Ronnie.
A visitation will be held at West Resthaven Funeral Home (6450 W. Northern Ave, Glendale AZ) on Monday, March 29, 2021 at 8:00 AM, with a funeral service to begin at 9:00 AM and burial at Resthaven Park Cemetery following services.
