Joshua Galindo, 87, of Glendale, Arizona entered into heaven on January 14, 2021. Joshua was born in Glendale, Arizona to Carmen (Nevares) and Joe G. Galindo. Joshua grew up in Glendale and graduated Glendale H.S. After high school Joshua moved to California to be with his brother and to go to school. Joshua enrolled in college and completed his Associate’s degree in photography. Joshua was always interested in learning and doing many different things. Joshua also completed a Bachelor's degree in Education, and served as an Academic Instructor.
He wanted to be a pilot, so he joined the Air Force as an Officer. He received his pilot license at March AFB 1957. Joshua sustained an injury which made it impossible to continue in his original path. It was then that he was transferred to The Air Force Security Forces (SF); and became Provost (Military Police) Marshall. While in the Air Force, Joshua, achieved the rank of Captain, did a tour in Viet Nam, sang in a barbershop singing group and received many awards and commendations during his 11+ years (from Dec 1957 and honorably discharged in Feb 1969); including The Vietnamese Medal of Honor for his part in resolving a conflict.
After his honorable discharge, Joshua returned home and went back to school at ASU, and achieved his master’s degree in Education. This began his career as a teacher.
Joshua taught at Phoenix Christian High School for many years, and substituted for several pubic high school. He continued teaching until he was 87 years old, just weeks before he passed away. He spoke and taught several languages, journalism, and drivers education. In his spare time, he taught Sunday school, was a deacon for his church and a prayer team leader on Wednesday nights, became a Chaplin and ministered at the state prisons, and was the Chaplin at Maricopa County Hospital. He taught bible classes and was a Gideon placing bibles in hotels and hospitals.
Joshua loved to sing with the choir and loved gospel music. He was an accomplished photographer shooting for several weddings that were “black & white” in the 50’s and 60’s.
He was known for his sense of humor and many coin tricks and magic tricks.
He loved the Cardinals and ASU football.
Joshua leaves behind his wife Cheryl Galindo; children Steven (Sharyn) Galindo, Julie (Dale) Walke, Christina (Cary) Carlson, Rachelle (Adam) Denmark, Kelly (Dan) Skirvin and Billy Hale; grandchildren Christine, Chase, Chelsey, Lauren, Joey, Luis, Patrick, Seann, Jonas, Andrew, Holly, Daniel, Nathan, Emily and Michael; and his sister Ann West.
He is preceded by his mother and father, Carmen and Joe Galindo; and his siblings Daniel Galindo, Carmen Langendorfor, and Ruth Black.
