Larry was born in Lansing, MI. He spent his youth in Watertown, WI graduating from Juneau High School. After high school, Larry did various jobs with the Milwaukee Road Railroad, drove a semi-truck, and became a draftsman at Brandt Automatic Cashier. He later moved to Phoenix, AZ where he spent his remaining 56 years working as a Draftsman for UHAUL, and ITT Cannon Systems.
Over his lifetime, Larry never lost his passion for trains. He would visit museums, railroad exhibits, and stop and look at locomotives past and present. Most recently he went on a train ride tour in the Verde Valley. One of his accomplishments was building an “N” Gauge railroad layout based on the time frame and location of his youth.
Larry played high school football, passing his experiences on to his sons and even coaching them in their youth. Even though he lived in Phoenix for most of his life he did remain an avid Green Bay Packers fan following their progress with his brother Ron.
Anybody that knew Larry knew his love for good food. He never left a plate unfinished and always had room for dessert. In Larry’s last few weeks, he ate to his heart’s content- all his favorites, fried chicken, pizza, and steak. He ate it all, loved every bite and left room for dessert. At the end, he had prime rib and lobster with 2 desserts, peach cobbler and banana pudding.
