Lonnie E. Smith

Lonnie E. Smith, a beloved, devoted, and thoughtful man, passed away on July 28, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on January 20, 1939, in Marblehead, Illinois, Lonnie lived a life filled with love and joy.

Lonnie is survived by his wife Karen, his children Scott (Rossella) Smith, Sue (Gary) Botsch, Duane (Jill) Smith, Sheree Smith, Melanie (Sam) Rosenblatt, Kelli (Mike) Moomey, and Jeffery (Elaine) Smith. He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, sister Janet Bringer and multiple nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his daughters Julie (Don) Coolman and Renea (Scott) Hill, as well as his parents William and Helen Smith, his siblings Betty (Tony) Rosa, Dorothy (Raymond) Bringer, Robert (Nancy) Smith, Carlene (George) Johnson, Patricia (Jerry) Jackson, Billy (Debby) Smith, and Thomas (Judy) Smith.

Lonnie had a passion for hunting and fishing and was very involved with his children as they grew up. Whether it was coaching or actively playing basketball with the kids, he was always there. His home was known as the neighborhood community hangout, thanks to his welcoming spirit.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Solace Hospice for their compassion and care, especially Chin, his nurse, AG, his caregiver, and Linda, his care coordinator.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A private service will be held on Saturday August 9, 2025 at 9:30 am at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W. Northern Ave., Glendale, AZ 8530, with the graveside to follow at 10 am at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6450 W. Northern Ave., Glendale, AZ 85301.
