

"I was born in New Jersey, but grew up in White Plains." Margie, 91, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Born May 26, 1922, to George and Anna Ackerman in Clifton, NJ, her blessed life began. She married Gerald Joseph "Jerry" Grace on May 12, 1945, after he completed his tour in Europe as a WWII fighter pilot. Margie and Jerry had nine children as they moved around the US while he continued his career in the Air Force, enjoying various assignments before retiring to Arizona in 1963. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Mabel and Dorothy, and brothers George, Harold and Donald. After her family, Margie's close friends included members of her OLPH Sunday morning mass and breakfast club, and the Starliters Grandmothers Club. She loved reading, puzzles, travel and especially the weekly Thursday "Ladies Night." Her favorite trips were to the Grace family reunions, Okuma Classic golf tournaments and the 368th Fighter Group Assoc. reunions. Margie is survived by her children, Janet Irvine, Susie Grace, Patti Mayer (Gerald), Gerald Jr (Debi), Jo Ann Grace, Gail Grace (Greg Patterson), Tim (Melodie), Gary (Laurie) and Steve (Carol). She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Chapel of the Chimes, 7924 N 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ, on Tuesday, January 14th from 5-8 pm and a Mass celebrating her life will be held at 10 am on January 15th, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 5614 W Orangewood Ave, Glendale, AZ. Burial will follow at Glendale Memorial Park Cemetery, 7844 N 61st Ave, Glendale, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to your favorite charity or the American Heart Association .
