OBITUARY

Randall Wayne Carlin

12 February, 1936 – 26 July, 2024
IN THE CARE OF

West Resthaven Funeral Home & Resthaven Park Cemetery

Randall Wayne Carlin was born on February 12, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph & Marion Carlin. They settled the family in Gary, Indiana where Randall grew up alongside his younger brother Joseph Jr. He attended and graduated from Calumet High School where he was a member of the marching band and the Boy Scouts. His high school class voted him “most talkative” and nicknamed him “Windy”, which comes as no surprise to anyone who knew him. His storytelling and likeability were the trademarks of his life. He met his future wife Sharon at a youth fellowship at Grace Methodist Church and married her there in 1955. They began their family in Gary, settling with four kids in Miller Beach and eventually moving the family in 1970 to Phoenix, Arizona. Randall was one who worked with his hands, which took him from a job in the steel mills of Gary as an electrician to his own appliance repair business in Phoenix. He spent the last 15 years of his career taking care of all the manufacturing equipment at Karsten Manufacturing where Ping golf clubs were made. He was proud of his work there and was known to his co-workers as being able to “fix anything”. Randy topped his career with a trip to stay and play at Augusta National Golf Course, a story he retold many times. He and Sharon were married for 64 years before she succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease in 2020. While this robbed them of a lot of their golden years, Randall never left her side and always made sure she received the best care and daily visits from him. Randall is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sharon and his son Tom. He is survived by his daughter Janis (John), son Randy (Debbie) and Jeff (Bernadine), 9 grandchildren, who loved their Grandpa dearly, and 9 great-grandchildren. The last years of his life were a struggle after losing his wife & son and battling his own health issues. He never complained, he just took it on the chin, day by day. It was hard to let him go, but much harder to watch him suffer, knowing that a place with his wife and son was waiting for him. Debbie and Janis were amazing caregivers in his final year, and we all did the best for him that we knew how. We are grateful that your kids and grandkids were able to be with you on this final part of your journey and we rejoice that you are with our mom and brother in the arms of God. Safe passage and rest in peace. A time for services will be announced.
