Richard is survived by his wife, Mirta; his children Dustin (w. Shara, c. Bryce, Logan), Catherine (h. Jeffrey, c. Lilliana, Alexandra, Evangeline), Thaddeus (w. Jessica, c. Thaddeus-Kashten, Westin) and Matthew (w. Susan-Emmy, c. Wiley, Isobell).
Richard was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He had two brothers, Douglas J. (1932-) & James M. (1934-2022). Richard began participating in sports as a very young boy. He went to Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids and as the end receiver on their football team, helped win many games. Basketball was his favorite sport and he often said “I was a ‘ball hog!” Richard was awarded a football scholarship at Coe College, Cedar Rapids where he completed his B.A. Richard went on to the University of Iowa for his M.A. in Painting and Art History. He completed his comprehensive assessments for a Ph.D. in Art History at UCLA. Richard taught at NAU among other universities.
Richard and Mirta retired in Showlow, AZ where they enjoyed drawing, painting, the outdoors, and their children and grandchildren’s visits.
