30 September, 1930 – 2 August, 2022
On the morning of August 2, 2022, Bernard Farmer of Wakefield, Louisiana died at the age of 91 years old. Bernard was born on September 30, 1930 to tobacco farmers Andy and Blanche Farmer of Barnard, North Carolina. He was one of only 14 graduates of Walnut High School, Class of '49. Bernard is preceded in death by his daughter, Gay Annette; his brothers, McKay and Manson; and his wonderful dog, "Precious". He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sadie Joan; their 3 children, Bernadine, Terry (wife June), and Gerald; his 3 grandchildren, Landon (wife Mandie) Farmer, Misty (husband Tommy) Tircuit, and Natalie (husband Travis) Weathersbee; his 3 great-grandchildren, Allynn Tircuit, Railynn Farmer, and Griffin Weathersbee; and his siblings, Helen Buckner, Ellen Rathbone, and Arthur Farmer. Bernard was a faithful member of the Southside church of Christ in Gonzales, LA. He was the original owner of a 1957 Chevrolet 2 door Bel Air. He was a hard worker all of his life and loved growing a "BIG" garden and freely giving most of the produce away. He was a veteran in the U.S. Army and proudly retired from the BASF Corporation after 37 and a half years of service. He loved God, and although he could be a tough man at times he did love his family "a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck". Ourso Funeral Home is honored to serve the Farmer family. A private service will be held at Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary. In lieu of flowers, please make your contributions to the Southside church of Christ for the continued work of the church and the spreading of the gospel. With heartfelt appreciation. Thanks, Bernadine. Southside church of Christ, P.O. Box 686, Gonzales, LA 70707. Condolences and memories can be shared with the Farmer family at www.oursofh.com.See more See Less
