Carolyn G. Himel

Carolyn G. Himel, age 72, a beloved native of Baton Rouge, LA, and esteemed resident of Saint Amant, LA, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024. She was surrounded by the love of her family and friends as she peacefully transitioned. Carolyn graduated from Redemptorist High School in 1969 and embarked on a fulfilling career as a secretary for the State of Louisiana and a dedicated rehabilitation specialist. Her commitment to helping others extended beyond her professional endeavors, touching the lives of many in profound ways. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur J. Fontenot Jr. and Zilphia Braud Fontenot, and her brother-in-law, Everett “Chuck” Cannon. Carolyn leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion, cherished by her surviving family members: her devoted husband, Chris Himel; her son, Lionel Gauthier, and his partner Grace Thompson; her sisters, Cherlyn Cannon, Linda Long (Michael), and Brenda Schexnayder (Marc); her brother, Arthur J. Fontenot III (Amy); her adoring grandchildren, Abbie and Lionel Moss; and her great-grandson, Bradley. In honor of Carolyn's memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made to any cancer research hospital of your choice, Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant, or to The Hospice of Baton Rouge. A visitation to pay respects to Carolyn will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 9 AM to 11 AM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, located at 44450 LA Highway 429, St. Amant, Louisiana 70774. A Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 11 AM, followed by interment at Holy Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to The Hospice of Baton Rouge for their compassionate care during Carolyn's final days, with special appreciation to her dedicated nurses, Kim and Rachel. Carolyn will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her selfless devotion to others, and the warmth of her presence, which touched the hearts of all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace, her spirit forever cherished in the hearts of those who loved her.
