Claudia Whitney was a "one of a kind" lady that loved as fiercely as you would expect from someone born on Valentine's Day. She was a 37 year employee of St. Theresa of Avila School and loved all her "kids" that came through the school. An avid reader with a wicked sense of humor, she instilled in her children a love of reading and an appreciation for quick wit. She took special delight in her numerous nieces and nephews.
Claudia enjoyed crocheting. She shared her talent by crocheting afghans and holiday mementos for friends and family. She crocheted prayer cards for the National Shrine of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos. She was known for handing out American Flag crosses to every Veteran she met.
She enjoyed spending time with her husband, family, and friends. She especially loved regular trips to the casino, always on the prowl for the next big jackpot. Claudia was devoted to the Rosary, saying prayers for her ever-expanding prayer list. She prayed for anyone who asked for her prayers, no matter who they were or whether she knew them or not.
She passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025, at home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband, Charles Whitney Sr.; 2 sons, Cy Whitney (Partner Johnny Chisholm) of Gulf Breeze, Fl., and Charles Whitney Jr. of New Orleans, La.; sister, Ann Holmes; brothers, Al Freitas and John “Speedy” Freitas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Rose Webre Freitas; sister, Maria Vicknair; brothers, Manuel Freitas, and Joseph Freitas Sr.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cornelius Sr., and Gertrude Whitney.
Visitation for Claudia will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at St. Mark Catholic Church 42021 Hwy 621 Gonzales, La, from 9am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. She will be laid to rest at Serenity Oaks Memorial Park Hwy 73 Prairieville, La, following Mass. A rosary will begin at 9am.
Claudia always made it a point to visit sick family and friends and received that same kindness at the end of her life. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all the family and friends who called, visited, and offered comfort during our mother's sickness.
Special thanks to goddaughter Angelle Guillot and niece Mackenzie Freitas for assisting with care in our mother's final days.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that a donation be made in Claudia's name to one of the following: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, National Shrine of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, or Padre Pio Foundation of America.
