

Clinton Charles Gautreau, native of Duplessis, LA and resident of Gonzales, LA, passed away Sunday, October 1st at Sanctuary at Passages Hospice in New Orleans, LA. He was 96 years of age, born March 9, 1921. Clint graduated from Dutchtown High School and enlisted in the United States Navy. He served honorably in the United States Navy with service in the Pacific Theatre during WWII followed by tours in the British West Indies, Rhode Island, California and many other duty stations throughout the world, including Pearl Harbor. Clint served on the USS Midway and the USS Independence and was the recipient of numerous medals. While stationed in Washington D.C. he met his wife, Charlotte “Pat” Sheehan from Boston, Massachusetts. Clint and Charlotte were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Star of the Sea Parish, in East Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday, July 27, 1947. Following an honorable discharge from the United States Navy, Clint was employed at Nature Foods Company in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was also employed at Ormet Corporation, Burnside, LA and Port Vincent Gas and Fuel Company. Clint was the proud owner of Burger Delite Drive Inn in Gonzales, LA . Clint and Charlotte raised their seven children in Boston and Gonzales. Clint cherished his Catholic faith as a parishioner of St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church, Gonzales, where he was a member of the church choir and served as a mass lector. He adored his children and consistently expressed how proud he was of them. He reminded his children to always follow the Golden Rule and to treat all of God’s Children with reverence, dignity and compassion. Clint was very proud of his Cajun Heritage and so enjoyed conversing in French. Clint attributed his long life to spending each and every day of his life free of worry about anything. He is survived by his four sons, Douglas Gautreau, Nathan Gautreau and wife, Linda, Joseph Gautreau and wife, Lori, Paul Gautreau; two daughters, Nancy Gautreau and Mary Jane Gautreau Karabin and husband Drew of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Derek Gautreau and wife Tammy, Nathan David Gautreau, Nicholas Karabin, Peyton Gautreau, Zachary Gautreau; five great-grandchildren, Morgan Gautreau, Myles Gautreau, Madeline Gautreau, Faith Gautreau and Emma Gautreau; three step-grandchildren, Shannon Sing and wife Jennifer, Amy Lejeune and husband Larry, Casey Sing and wife Paula, along with eight step-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Clint was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte Sheehan Gautreau, and his beloved son, David Charles Gautreau; his father Joseph Wright Gautreau and mother Scholastica Lambert Gautreau; two brothers, Douglas L. Gautreau and Joseph Wright Gautreau, Jr.; and three sisters, Estelle Gautreau Cunningham, Elma Gautreau Bourgeois, and Bernice Gautreau LeBlanc. Visitation will be observed at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church, 1022 North Burnside Ave., Gonzales, LA Friday, October 6th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow, celebrated by Fr. Eric Gyan. Interment will follow at Hope Haven Cemetery in Prairieville. Pallbearers will be Paul Gautreau, Derek Gautreau, Nathan David Gautreau, Nicholas Karabin, Peyton Gautreau, and Zachary Gautreau. Honorary pallbearers will be Douglas Gautreau, Nathan Paul Gautreau, Joseph Gautreau and Myles Gautreau. The family expresses thanks to the staff at the Southeastern Veterans Home in Reserve, LA for the care they provided to Clint. The family deeply appreciates Dr. Diane Davis and her entire medical staff at Ochsners Medical Center, New Orleans, LA for the care, concern and treatment for Clint along with the staff at Sanctuary at Passages Hospice, New Orleans, LA.
