Daphne Spears

Daphne Sue Spears October 19,1969-May 4, 2018, resident of Prairieville, La., passed away peacefully at her home in Prairieville after a courageous 5 year battle with breast cancer. Daphne was born in Cottonport, La. and raised in Lettsworth, La. She was a loving wife to her high school sweetheart and best friend, James David Spears Jr. and devoted mother to daughters, Dallas Adelle Spears, Vivian Claire Spears and sons, James David Spears, III and Charles Michael Spears. A nurse in the Heart/Vascular Unit at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge, Daphne was passionate about helping others through her nursing career and kind heart. She made a lasting impact on everyone that she met and touched the lives of many. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service that will be held Monday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Ourso Funeral Home of Gonzales and again on Tuesday morning, 9:30 am until 11:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Prairieville with a mass to follow. There will be a Wednesday morning burial that will take place in Simmesport, La. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her including her loving parents, Melvin and Annette Smith; sisters, Dana Smith (Jay), Deana Canal (Ciro), Dodie Jones (Chad), Danielle Rucker (Binky), Dacia Adams (Ricky), Darica Strong (Billy); brother, Damon Smith (Lisa) and numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends whom were blessed to know her. Daphne is proceeded in death by her infant daughter, Alexis Spears. The family would like to thank the amazing nurses and doctors at M.D. Anderson and Mary Bird Perkins for the exceptional care over the years.
