Gary J. Delatte, Sr., a native of Whitehall and longtime resident of Gonzales, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, January 16, 2023 at the age of 84. Gary was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family. Gary served proudly in the US Air Force for 4 years. He was a man of many talents; he sold clothing and insurance, was a painter and pipefitter at Rubicon, the proud owner of the Delatte Grocery Store and after retirement went back to work at WalMart. He was a hard worker but also enjoyed the simple things in life. He was an avid reader, a coin enthusiast and loved to spend time in his garden. He truly had a way with plants and could make anything grow. Gary is preceded in death by his loving wife Faye LeBlanc Delatte; son, Gary Delatte, Jr.; his parents Scofield and Veronicque Delatte. He is survived by his caring children, Debbie Waggenspack (Lenny), Tammy Sides (Mark), Misty Whittington (Allen); sons, Don Delatte (Helen), Steve Delatte (Missy); grandchildren, Ryan and Cory Sides, Grant and Garrett Waggenspack, Jacob, Kristen, Nicholas and Brett Delatte, Jodi Burgett, Rafe Delatte, Adam, Jonathan, Shelby, Emma Whittington; great grandchildren, Michael, Amelia and June Waggenspack, Preston, Abrie and Kaley Sides, Keegan, Aubrey and Rayleigh Delatte, Juliette and James Burgett, Grace and Lane Favre and Jackson Delatte. He is also survived by his siblings Hollis Delatte (Linda), Wayne Delatte (the late Sharon), Ronald Delatte (Shirley), Ralph Delatte (Marlene) and Pamela Johnson (Gene). Visitation will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023 at St. Theresa of Avail Catholic Church in Gonzales beginning at 9:30AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30AM celebrated by Fr. Eric Gyan. Interment will follow at Hope Haven Garden of Memory in Gonzales. Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Garrett, Cory, Don, Brett, Rafe and Jonathan.
