

Gerald “Nicky” Prejean passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on October 24, 2023, at the age of 80. Nicky was born on July 4, 1943 to Vincent W. Prejean and Lena Blackwell Prejean. Nicky was a lifelong native and resident of Lake, LA. He began his career as a teamster with Teamsters Local 5 and worked at Cosmar. Nicky was a owner and President of Southland Fire and Safety Equipment, Inc. for over 50 years. He was also a co-owner of First National Bank in Gonzales and served on its board. He was instrumental in getting federal funding to help build Louisiana Regional Airport in Gonzales and served as its chairman for 5 years. Nicky also proudly served on the Ascension Parish Haz-Mat Team. In his spare time, Nicky enjoyed owning stock cars and regularly entered them into all the major NASCAR races with future superstar Rusty Wallace. Besides racing, Nicky enjoyed building, improving, and working on his horse farm.
Nicky is preceded in death by his parents, Vincent W. Prejean and Lena Blackwell Prejean, and his brother Sammy Paul Prejean. Nicky is survived by his spouse of 60 years, Muriel Mayers Prejean; two sisters, Wanda Sue Prejean Clouatre and Cheryl Ann Prejean Moran; four children, Tonia Prejean Sheets, Bert Prejean, Bart Prejean, and Brett Prejean; eight grandchildren, Cole Prejean, Holden Prejean, Mason Prejean, Connor Bercegeay, Carli Sheets, Stevie Allen, Bryanne Boudreaux, and Haley Fitch; six great grandchildren, Ezra Prejean, Gibson Prejean, Asher Bercegeay, Sage Allen, Adalynn and Blakely Fitch.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at St. Mark Catholic Church in Gonzales, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at St. Marks Catholic Church in Gonzales, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Lake Martin cemetery. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are: Bert Prejean, Bart Prejean, Brett Prejean, Cole Prejean, Holden Prejean, Mason Prejean, Connor Bercegeay, and Jeff Sheets Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.oursofh.com for the Prejean family.
