

Gloria Mire Melugin, 85, of Prairieville, passed away surrounded by family at The Crossing on Sunday, February 19th, 2017. She graduated from Istrouma High School and attended Spencer Business College where she obtained a degree in Accounting. She was employed with Ascension Parish School Board where she worked for over 30 years as a Secretary / Accountant for Dutchtown Schools. She received many awards through the years, including Secretary of the Year many times over. She was involved in many clubs & organizations and was instrumental in starting the Prairieville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was loved by many family, friends, students & teachers in the community thru the years at Dutchtown Schools. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church where she was involved in many church festivals. She is survived by daughters, Cindy Melugin Brecheen, and Patricia Melugin Hima and husband George; sons, Johnnie B. Melugin Jr. and wife Jeannine, and Michael Melugin Sr. and wife Cindy; Sisters; Betty White, Birdie Landry, Dee Daigle and Charlene LeBlanc, grandchildren, Lieutenant Colonel Larry Babin Jr. and wife Chrissie, Jody Paul Melugin, Rachel Babin Campo and husband Anthony, Michael Melugin Jr. and wife Callie, Joshua Melugin and Meghan Melugin; great-grandchildren, Christa Babin Clift, Gabriel, Hannah and Noah Babin, Landon, Jaycee and Jaydon Campo, and Alyse, Kane and Dani Melugin; many other loving family members. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Johnnie B. Melugin, Sr.; her parents, Telesphor & Ledie Mire; brothers and sisters; Burton Mire, Genevieve Mire, Verna Acosta, Connie Mire, Bobbie Shipp and Jeannie Jumonville; Son In Laws; Larry Babin, Sr. and Clyde Brecheen, Sr. Her loving grandsons & great grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. Visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Prairieville, on Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 9:30 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with the Rev.
