

A native of Lake and a resident of Gonzales, he passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at the age of 94. He was born Nov. 5, 1917, to Ethel Marie Yard and Lee Honest Mayers. He married Annie Mary Lanoux in January 1939. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Central Europe, receiving seven medals. He retired from Exxon with 33 years of service as a master mechanic. He was a life member of American Legion Post 81, and VFW Post 3693, and a member of Bayou Country Exxon Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to cook jambalaya. He is survived by his children, Annie-Laura, Nell, and Lloyd "Sonny" Mayers and wife Eunice; sisters, Lillian Pendarvis, Laura Roussell and Lenora "Kitty" Russell; brothers, Lionel "Bully" and Luther "PeeWee" Mayers; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. Preceded in death by his parents, wife; granddaughter, Sheila Bryson; and brother, Linden "Crop" Mayers. There will be a visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, on Sunday, Jan. 29, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Monday, Jan. 30, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Deacon Sammartino. Entombment will be in Holy Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery, St. Amant. Pallbearers will be Kevin Mayers, Keith Mayers, Dillon Williams, Brian Hamilton, David Parker and Jenson Hamilton.
